What is Karin’s Treasures?
Karin’s Treasures is a small, independent second-hand bookshop based in Pretoria. We carefully select quality pre-owned books and offer them at fair, affordable prices for readers, collectors, and gift buyers.
Each book is individually checked, honestly described, and photographed where necessary.
Are your books new or second-hand?
Most books are second-hand (pre-owned) unless clearly stated otherwise. Light signs of age or use are normal.
How do you describe book condition?
We use simple, clear terms:
- Like New – Almost no signs of use
- Very Good – Light wear only
- Good – Normal reading wear
- Fair – Noticeable wear but complete and readable
Any significant flaws are mentioned in the description.
Are the photos of the actual book?
Usually, yes.
If the book is in good condition and a clean cover image is available online, we may use a standard cover image for clarity.
However, if no cover image is available, or if the book has noticeable flaws (such as a dust jacket issue, markings, or light water damage), we always use photos of the actual copy so you can see exactly what you are buying.
What payment methods do you accept?
We offer secure online payments through trusted South African providers:
- Yoco (card and Instant EFT)
- PayFast (card and Instant EFT)
- Direct bank EFT (manual transfer)
Orders are processed once payment has cleared. For the fastest dispatch, we recommend card or Instant EFT payments.
After placing your order, we’ll send you an email with our banking details so you can complete your payment.
If payment is not received within 48 hours, the order may be cancelled and items returned to stock.
Can you hold or reserve a book?
Yes — we’re happy to place a book on hold for up to 48 hours.
If payment is not received within this time, the book will be returned to stock.
How long does delivery take?
Orders are packed within 1–2 business days after payment clears.
Delivery time depends on the courier selected and your location.
We offer:
- Aramex Drop Box to Door
- PUDO by The Courier Guy (locker to locker, locker to door, or locker to kiosk)
- PostNet to PostNet
- Paxi (PEP to PEP)
Most deliveries arrive within 2–5 business days depending on the service and area.
We offer Free Shipping on all orders of R600 or more (strictly limited to PUDO Locker-to-Locker or Paxi PEP-to-PEP only)
For the quickest delivery, we recommend Instant EFT/card payment with PUDO (The Courier Guy).
Tracking details are provided once dispatched.
Do you offer local collection?
Yes. Pretoria customers may arrange same-day collection by arrangement, subject to payment clearance.
Do you accept returns or refunds?
Because we specialise in carefully described second-hand books, all items are sold as described.
Returns are only considered in the rare case of a publisher or manufacturing defect, such as:
- missing pages
- duplicate pages
- major printing faults
Approved cases are resolved with store credit or a replacement copy (if available).
We do not offer cash refunds.
Do you buy second-hand books?
We occasionally purchase books from local sellers in the Pretoria area, depending on the titles, condition, and space available.
Because Karin’s Treasures focuses on carefully curated stock, we are selective about what we buy and unfortunately cannot accept all books offered.

Do you offer a rewards programme?
Yes, we do.
Customers who donate good-quality, readable books to Karin’s Treasures receive a 20% thank-you discount on ALL purchases. There’s no limit — you can use your discount every time you shop. It’s our way of keeping great books in circulation while rewarding our community of readers and fellow booksellers.
We also offer a 20% wholesale discount for other book dealers and resellers. Please provide proof that you are a registered dealer to qualify.
Our loyal customers receive a 10% loyalty discount code valid for 12 months. This discount can be used on website orders, WhatsApp orders, and in-shop purchases.
What happens to donated books?
Donated books are sorted with care.
- Books suitable for resale may be added to our shop
- Books that are still readable but not sellable are donated to literacy and community organisations
